What attracted you to a career in accounting?

What advice would you give to any other school leavers considering an apprenticeship in accounting?
I would definitely promote the apprenticeship route, especially for accounting. The advice I would give is to be ambitious and don’t be afraid to come out of your comfort zone. It can be quite daunting to be part of a minority when most people go to university and you don’t follow the same route, but it will pay off. Make sure to read up on the different qualifications and see which ones fit you and your ambitions.
I always felt an ease of looking at numbers and trying to figure out how to do things methodically, as I think most things with numbers and maths is if you remember the way that something is done step by step, then you can pretty much rinse and repeat with that method, and in A level for accounting it did very much feel like that, so I thought why not try this as a career.
What I enjoy most about working at Crowe is the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, making it a friendly and supportive place to be. The diversity of tasks and challenges, as well as exposure to clients, from small to large entities, keeps each day exciting, allowing me to continually learn and grow within the firm.

Crowe’s process was far more ‘involved’ and ‘personal’ than other applications from other firms. Where some firms had up to four or five stages before you were in contact with a real person, we were invited to an assessment day in person, in the office after the initial stages. This also means that we got to see the office and the environment which we were hoping to work in. It made the experience far more personal as we got to meet potential colleagues and graduates who have gone down the same path/apprenticeship as us.
What was your experience like during the interview process, was there anything that stood out?
Assistant, Professional and Private Clients
London
Tom Lees
It was great to meet a variety of senior staff from seniors who had been through the recruitment and training process in the last few years to meeting with partners and hearing different perspectives of the company. Also, although daunting at first the group presentation activity was a great way to get the candidates talking and for the assessors to see us from a more active point of view.
