Additional EU tariffs of up to 38% are expected to come into effect for imports of Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) on 4 July, however there are ongoing talks about how both sides can come to a more mutually beneficial arrangement amidst the ongoing dispute.

Teething problems have continued six months on from the implementation of the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM). DEFRA have addressed issues relating to delays at Sevington Border Control Post and traders falsifying information on declarations to bypass controls.
BTOM update
New legislation has been introduced to allow for penalties to be issued to UK exporters who fail to report errors identified in proofs of origin they have issued.

UK exporters – new proof of origin requirements
HMRC have introduced new services for businesses to both request their customs data and reclaim their overpaid duty. Previously, businesses and traders would be required to email a completed MSS agreement and covering letter to HMRC. The new application process allows for this to be completed via an online form, supported by a covering letter.
